A transportation engineer is concerned with the safe and efficient movement to both people and goods. This includes designing and maintaining all types of transportation facilities, such as highways and streets, mass transit systems, railroads and airfield, and ports and harbors. Technology, logistics, economics, politics, and societal considerations are factors in all projects related to transportation.
At the university level, the focus of this STC program is to educate transportation professionals with a special emphasis in transportation safety. We attract students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and they complete a core curriculum of safety-related courses that are multimodal and intermodal in content. STC students throughout the region have access to the unique resources and specialty areas available at STC member institutions. We believe this approach ensures a highly effective and efficient use of all available resources.
